im Cowart - Since 1958, the Jim Cowart name has been synonymous with the highest standards in the development of masterfully planned residential communities. After service in the U.S. Air Force, Jim began his career as a builder and constructed hundreds of homes in the Dunwoody area. Jim is credited with the original design of the “Five Four and a Door” style house.

As he explains…I was building ranch style homes when a rather large family approached me and said, "Jim, we need more bedrooms at a reasonable price." This is when Jim designed and began building the two-story style home that became the trademark design for homes through-out the North Atlanta area.

“Five, Four and a Door” you ask? Five windows upstairs, four windows downstairs and the front door! This phrase is still used throughout Atlanta's homebuilding industry today.

Early on, Jim stopped building houses and began developing neighborhoods by assembling groups of custom homebuilders, furnishing them with lots, and selling their homes once they were built. His goal was to offer a homebuilder full service from start to finish and no one has done that better for over 50 years!

When developing a community, Jim has strived to create value. Many of his homeowners upgraded from one Cowart community to another. Cowart neighborhoods, as they are commonly referred to, continue to be sought after by builders, homebuyers and the real estate community. He has built or developed in over 50 neighborhoods in the Metro Atlanta area.

Jim Cowart has been honored by the Atlanta Homebuilders Association with its most distinguished accolade, the Lewis Cenker Award, and been named the YMCA Man of the Year for his contributions to that fine organization. He has been awarded with the prestigious“ Button Gwinnet Award”, now referred to as the Four Pillars Award, for his excellence in business and service in the metropolitan Atlanta area. Jim has been the recipient of many other awards for his professional accomplishments and for his community philanthropy.

Besides his love and dedication for his companies, Jim and his wife devote countless hours to the activities and interests of their children and numerous grandchildren.
